Tony Kuyper works in an outpatient clinic on the Navajo Indian Reservation. He graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1982 and moved to the Southwest a year later. Since then he has practiced pharmacy in Native American communities while taking advantage of his location to explore the natural environment that surrounds his home. The Colorado Plateau and its fascinating erosion patterns are the main subjects of his photographs. Unique designs within the landscape and glowing sandstone are favorite themes. Canyon Candy shows a sandstone detail from Antelope Canyon, a slot canyon near Page, Ariz. The upper parts of the canyon are bathed in the warm glow of reflected sunlight, while the lower portion remains in cool shadow, illuminated by the blue light from a clear sky.
